Certified under Airworthiness Regulations NLGV32.29 and under FAR-29 in transport category A and B, for VFR and IFR, day and night, in normal and adverse weather conditions above land and sea. The helicopter is equipped with engine and blade anti-icing systems.

The Ka-32 helecopters’ capability to lift and transport 5-ton cargos on external sling allowed the helicopter to ocuppy the workd’s leading position among the rotocraft of this category as per aplication efficiency. The Ka-32 helicopter family is the most effective and the saftest in its class of helicopters and is successfuly operated in such countries as Canada, Switzerland, Taiwan, South Korea performing the following operations: The helicopters were used for transportation of cargos and staff of American Companies for servicing off-shore platforms in Papua New Guinea.

Due to its coaxial rotor system guaranteeing piloting accuracy and precision the helicopter is capable to carry loads in narrow canyons with minimum deviation from a specified point. External cargo sling is attached to frame in transport cabin. Underslung load stabilization system excludes cargo swinging and facilitates piloting task. The provisions are made in the cabin doorway to install a remotely-controlled 300-kg capacity winch on a movable boom.

Foreign operators of the Ka-32 helicopter acknowledged it to be the best fire-fighting helicopter in its category. This helicopter in fire-fighting version may be used for fire extinguishing operations in hard-to-reach areas, in high-storied buildings, on enterprises and rural infrastructures serving simultaneously for transporting firemen and evacuating people from emergency constructions and buildings on fire, from ships and off-shore platforms. The helicopter is fitted out with special fire-fighting equipment and are used both for horizontal fire-fighting operations (skyscrapers, industrial projects, multi-storied buildings), and for vertical fire-fighting by means of standard “Bambi Bucket” system and American “Simplex” system specially developed for this particular helicopter. The helicopter may be equipped with horizontal fire extinguishing system (water cannon) which can be fed from a fire-fighting vehicle and is capable of suppressing fire at the altitude of up to 100 m. When autonomous underslung water tanks of up to 3,400 l are used, the helicopter altitude of operation is practically unlimited.

“Simplex” system, model 10900-050, is a set of on-board equipment intended for autonomous charging, discharging and transportation of fire-extinguishing liquids. The system is comprised of the following components: pump charging system, allowing to take water without landing the helicopter, built-in tank with hydraulic water release doors (from below), two tanks with foam reagent (along the fuselage sides), electronic control unit. Active system of filling allows using of shallow, open basins. “Simplex” Company designs and delivers systems with water tanks, the capacity of which is up to 3,000 l and up to 5,000 l. The helicopters equipped with “Simplex” systems (manufacturer:: “Simplex Manufacturing Company”, Portland, Oregon 97230) are extensively used for forest fire fighting in South Korea, Canada and other countries of the world.

The up-to-date flight-navigation integrated system automatically brings the helicopter to a remote spot in the ocean. Flight integrated system ensures automatic hovering, stabilization of the preset and flight speed. Using the main fuel tanks the helicopter is capable of continuous flight at the range of 700 km. Flight endurance with standard fuel (without reserve) is – 4-5 hrs. The helicopter can land on a 12 õ 12 m pad including ship deck at 5?6 sea state .

This configuration of the helicopter can be used for fighting fires in hard-to-reach areas, in high-storied buildings, on enterprises and rural infrastructures serving simultaneously for transporting firemen and evacuating people from emergency constructions and buildings on fire, from ships and off-shore platforms.

 

The unique qualities of coaxial rotors ensure high power-to-weight ratio of Ka-32 helicopter, its small dimensions and simplicity of piloting. Due to the absence of a tail rotor the helicopter is most safe during maneuvering in the vicinity of obstacles and is less sensitive to the wind force and direction. The helicopter performs any turns in a horizontal plane without changing flight altitude and additional engine power losses, which is particularly important in fighting fires in high air temperatures conditions when the powerplant excess power is unavailable.

 

Two Ka-32 helicopters operated by fire-fighting service of the city of Moscow for 7 years have considerably increased the availability of Moscow fire brigades, saved the lives of hundreds of people and many industrial, city-owned and house stock objects. The availability of an open water basins in Moscow allows the helicopter to quickly react and effectively extinguish fire sources using a number of devices and systems which are simple and reliable in operation.

The helicopters with the above equipment are widely operated today. The helicopters with “Simplex” system are effectively operated in the Republic of Korea for forest fire-fighting. Two helicopters with «Bambi Bucket» system and water cannon are on duty with a fire-fighting service of the city of Moscow (Russia). During dry summer months Ka-32 helicopters are on a round-the-clock duty in the south European countries to protect forests and other objects from fire. The helicopter with these fire-fighting systems can operate in built-up areas and for fighting forest and oil-and-gas pipeline fires, as well as fires on off-shore platforms.

Ka-32A main roles are: carrying people and cargoes in the transport cabin and bulky cargo on external sling, evacuation of casualties and victims, search and emergency-rescue operations, loading-unloading of the ships in travel and at roadstead, servicing operations of coastal gas and oil pipelines, building-installation operations.

 Ka-32A helicopter has coaxial rotor layout with two three-blade rotors of 15.9-m diameter each. The polymeric composite blades are folded into stowage position when the helicopter is based on ship decks. Ka-32A is developed on the basis of ship-borne Ka-27 and Ka-28 helicopters and inherited high power-to-weight ratio, maneuverability, capability for all-weather operations including the icing conditions; adaptability of the units, systems and assemblies for aggressive sea water operational conditions. The coaxial rotor layout makes the helicopter safe in maneuvering in the vicinity of obstacles, including in turbulent atmosphere. In case of one engine failure the helicopter continues safe forward flight and successfully lands. Due to its on-board avionics suite the helicopter is operable 24 hours a day throughout the year and in IFR conditions.

 The helicopter set 7 world records. Western operators in Switzerland, Canada, Papua-New Guinea, Burma and other countries successfully operate Ka-32A. The helicopter is available in several versions: Ka-32A1 fire-fighting version, Ka-32A2 police version, Ka-32A11BC, Ka-32A12. The aviation registers of Canada and Switzerland have granted type certificates to Ka-32A11BC and Ka-32A12 helicopters.
